Happy Homeowners: The Cirillo Family

dennis and rosie

Dennis and Rosie Cirillo, our newest Happy Homeowners in our MillBridge community in Waxhaw, recently provided some of the details about their experience in building with M/I Homes. From selecting options to watching their home be built with M/I’s Whole Home Quality standards, the Cirillos got to see it all!

  1. Is this your first M/I Home and what convinced you to choose M/I Homes over another builder?

Yes, this is our first new home and first M/I home. There are a number of things that convinced us to move here. First and foremost, we loved the community and our New Home Consultant Jay Sperry. He was exceptional! He provided us with all the time we needed and he walked us through each stage of the buying process. We thought the community, and all the amenities it offered, made it seem as if you were on a vacation. It was a great experience purchasing with M/I Homes.

  1. Are you happy with how your home turned out?

We love it! It’s as beautiful as we thought it would be and really came out unbelievable. We love the lot we picked out which included a common tree lined area behind it. That’s why we picked this site. We did a lot of research and looked at models from several different builders around the area. We decided to purchase our home from M/I Homes and it turned out exactly how we wanted it. Being from Long Island New York, we have friends and family that come here to visit us. While they’re here, we take them around the area and show them other models and builders. Everyone always comments that they love the home we picked out.

  1. What is the name of your floorplan and what features of your home do you especially love?

We picked the Cambridge model. We love the large island in the kitchen and the layout of the home. It’s a very open concept which really lends to the home appearing very spacious. We also love the fact that we don’t have to go upstairs that often. When the family comes over to visit they have the entire upstairs which has everything they need; two bedrooms a full bath and a bonus room to hang out and watch TV. Everything we need is downstairs. The laundry room and master bedroom are on the lower level. The master bedroom has an optional grand shower which we really love. Jay convinced us to get it, and we’ve fallen in love with it! It is very spacious and looks great.

  1. Overall, how was your experience with M/I Homes? Did you get to pick out your homesite and the floorplan you wanted to build, or had the home already been started?

We built it from scratch which was really nice because we picked everything we wanted at the Design Center to go into it. We picked this home site because of the woods, and the fact that it didn’t look into any other neighbor’s backyard directly behind us. We were still up in New York during the build. We were able to watch the entire build process from foundation to roof from New York. We were able to view pictures of each stage of construction on the M/I Homes website. Jay, the builder and I, spoke each week on a conference call. That was such a great experience. Not being in the state during the construction, we really wanted to know how the home was progressing. Jay and the builder were great about keeping us up-to-date!

  1. Did you enjoy your home building process?

We loved the building process. With this being our first new home, it was a great experience to watch every aspect of our home being built from scratch. The constant updates from the team here in North Carolina were really appreciated. We looked forward to every call. The process was seamless.

  1. Was there something about your home that made you immediately know you wanted to move in?

I would definitely say the open concept we spoke about. The room sizes were a big plus too, especially on the main floor. The two bedrooms on the main floor are separate from each other. One is in the front of the home, and the other is in the rear which is really nice. We wanted everything spread out. Having the master bedroom downstairs also worked out great. We don’t want to have to climb stairs too often, and we don’t need to. When our guests come they have their own suite upstairs with a full bathroom too! They have their privacy and we still maintain ours!

  1. What do you like about your neighborhood / community?

Everyone that lives here is so friendly. Everyone says hello and waves to each other. There’s also a community Facebook page where people communicate and assist each other. We love that! There’s always something going on in the community and clubhouse. There’s a mix of families. There are younger families with children and older families, like us, with grandchildren. That’s great! We really didn’t want to live in an over 55 community. My grandchildren come down often, and really love everything about visiting here. There’s so much to do.

  1. Anything you would recommend to someone looking for a new home?

I would recommend building; in our opinion it’s the best thing to do. You can customize anything you want. You get to pick out what you want in your home. That’s the beauty of the Design Center. We were able to upgrade everything and we really enjoyed doing that. This is our last home, we wanted everything just right. Having a Design Center stocked with choices made it easy to customize our home. But, if you can’t wait for the construction process you also have the choice of an inventory home. For those families, having the choice of a number of inventory homes works. You can always find something that you want, and fits your needs.

  1. What is your favorite memory in your new home thus far?

We haven’t been here that long, but having our family come over and visit is definitely one of the highlights. It’s great seeing their initial reaction when they first walk into our home. So far, everyone that came to visit was very impressed. We’re really proud of our home and how we decorated it. Every time I open the door I say, “I love my house!” We are both so happy the way everything came out!

  1. Anything else you would like to share with us about your M/I home buying experience?

We were given some good advice from people that had homes built. They told us not to expect perfection. Homes are built by people, and people are not perfect. There was an inspection prior to us moving in, and any imperfections were pointed out then. Those minor issues were quickly resolved. As the home “settles,” minor issues can arise and should be expected. Any little thing that arose was pointed out and M/I Homes took care of. I called either Jay or the builder, and they made sure that we were happy! M/I stood by the quality of their workmanship. I’ve heard from other people that purchased from different builders about problems they’ve experienced. It’s important to stand by your product and M/I Homes does just that! They go beyond what other builders do even after you’re settled in and living in your home. Jay and Clint Brown (the builder) were excellent! We are so happy with our M/I home!
