M/I Homes of Dallas Starts Construction on a New Model Home!

MI Homes got an early start last Thursday morning, as we beat the heat and had the concrete poured for our new model home, The Turnberry A, in our Park Ridge community. M/I Homes is thrilled to be a part of the continued growth of McKinney, Texas.  Progress for this model is one of the most highly anticipated events of the year for our M/I Homes of Dallas / Fort Worth division, as well as the surrounding area!  This model is inspired by Anthropoligie (the retail brand), and will be decked out floor to ceiling with beautiful design and décor to really capture the hottest trends in Dallas / Fort Worth.  Soaring ceilings, beautiful textures, oversized tile and hardwood flooring will all be featured.  An amazing chef’s kitchen with a 5-burner gas rangetop and stainless steel vent and appliances, and a beautiful, oversized farm sink are in the works for this gorgeous new model home and  the game room and media room will blow you away with how much space is available!

We are looking forward to opening our Park Ridge community, at the corner of Virginia Parkway and Hardin, in October. We just had our sneak peak event at Harry’s at the Harbor in Adriactica where we released floor plans and pricing for this gorgeous new community. M/I Homes of Dallas will have a variety of floor plans options for families to choose from, starting at 1,830 square feet all the way up to 3,170 square feet. Pricing for Park Ridge will begin at $289,990 and go up to $399,990.

Make sure to join our VIP list to learn more about this gorgeous new community as it’s released. We will also be doing a Grand Opening at our Model Home towards the end of October, so you won’t want to miss any upcoming details. We know that you will love our homes and enjoy living in the #1 rated small town in the country, according to Money Magazine.

10 Mistakes to Avoid When Building a New Home

You have given much thought and consideration to what will work for you, but have you taken the time to think about what won’t work

Poor planning and budgets that are too small can lead way to some wayward, inconvenient and disastrous mistakes. When you plan on building a new home, you must look at the home from many angles. You must consider your current and future lifestyles. You need to take family planning into consideration – Will your family be expanding? Or will your children be leaving the nest?  Do you entertain often and host overnight guests regularly? Take your time and do your research both online and in person. Be sure to take the time to meet with professionals in the industry. Poor design choices can make your home not only uncomfortable, but downright unhealthy. Architects, engineers and builders are all trained to help you make effective decisions. They will help guide you as to where you can save a few dollars and where you absolutely should not cut corners.

#DIYFriday: Boost your lawn this weekend

1. Rough up the current ground cover. The roots from the sod need to make contact with dirt, so use a rototiller or similar tool to expose the soil beneath.

2. Add some lime. Lime promotes lawn health by providing nutrients and improving soil structure. Because lime is absorbed slowly, add it prior to the sod.

3. Fill in the gaps. After fitting the sod pieces closely together, cutting and trimming as needed, fill in the joints with a mixture of soil and grass seed.

4. Compact and water. Compact the sod using a roller—or by driving over the installation with a pickup truck! Water for 20 minutes in the early morning (before the sun gets too high) and 20 minutes in the evening (after the sun has set).

A month later, the sod we would have sent to some refuse center is living on and looking great.  Both we and our neighbors couldn’t be happier about that.

Irving firmly believed in always treating customers right and ensuring a top rate experience. This philosophy and legacy has made M/I Homes into the company it is today.

With the start of 2013, M/I Homes Indianapolis introduced three new floorplans designed for the way you live today! The new Cooke, Dillion and Fairview floorplans encompass a variety of 4 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom home designs – ranging anywhere from 2,600 to 3,300 square feet.

5.    Built Better:  At M/I Homes Indianapolis, we are committed to building quality homes and continually working to improve. The new 2”x6” lumber we are using is designed to create stronger, more stable walls meaning superior construction and a better built home. In addition, using the 2”x6” lumber builds a deeper wall cavity, allowing room for thicker insulation. With added insulation and tight envelope construction, you are guaranteed to save on energy costs!
