MI Homes got an early start last Thursday morning, as we beat the heat and had the concrete poured for our new model home, The Turnberry A, in our Park Ridge community. M/I Homes is thrilled to be a part of the continued growth of McKinney, Texas.  Progress for this model is one of the most highly anticipated events of the year for our M/I Homes of Dallas / Fort Worth division, as well as the surrounding area!  This model is inspired by Anthropoligie (the retail brand), and will be decked out floor to ceiling with beautiful design and décor to really capture the hottest trends in Dallas / Fort Worth.  Soaring ceilings, beautiful textures, oversized tile and hardwood flooring will all be featured.  An amazing chef’s kitchen with a 5-burner gas rangetop and stainless steel vent and appliances, and a beautiful, oversized farm sink are in the works for this gorgeous new model home and  the game room and media room will blow you away with how much space is available!

You’re going to build your dream home and you’ve thought it all through – or so you’ve thought. You know exactly what you need and want to have in your home, but have you thought about what you don’t want and what you don’t need? Have you really thought the whole thing through? You have given much thought and consideration to what will work for you, but have you taken the time to think about what won’t work

Poor planning and budgets that are too small can lead way to some wayward, inconvenient and disastrous mistakes. When you plan on building a new home, you must look at the home from many angles. You must consider your current and future lifestyles. You need to take family planning into consideration – Will your family be expanding? Or will your children be leaving the nest?  Do you entertain often and host overnight guests regularly? Take your time and do your research both online and in person. Be sure to take the time to meet with professionals in the industry. Poor design choices can make your home not only uncomfortable, but downright unhealthy. Architects, engineers and builders are all trained to help you make effective decisions. They will help guide you as to where you can save a few dollars and where you absolutely should not cut corners.

#DIYFriday: Boost your lawn this weekend

1. Rough up the current ground cover. The roots from the sod need to make contact with dirt, so use a rototiller or similar tool to expose the soil beneath.

2. Add some lime. Lime promotes lawn health by providing nutrients and improving soil structure. Because lime is absorbed slowly, add it prior to the sod.

3. Fill in the gaps. After fitting the sod pieces closely together, cutting and trimming as needed, fill in the joints with a mixture of soil and grass seed.

4. Compact and water. Compact the sod using a roller—or by driving over the installation with a pickup truck! Water for 20 minutes in the early morning (before the sun gets too high) and 20 minutes in the evening (after the sun has set).

A month later, the sod we would have sent to some refuse center is living on and looking great.  Both we and our neighbors couldn’t be happier about that.
