#ThrowbackThursday

The M/I Homes family is defined by our co- founder, Irving Schottenstein. At the heart of our business, M/I Homes stands above all other builders because we truly care. Among the many great values Irving instilled into M/I, “treating the customer right” is the guiding philosophy the company lives by. And it was those very words that served as his lasting legacy.

We take a look back at Irving’s life accomplishments that defines who we are today…

Happy with M/I Homes Customer Story: The Hansberry Family

We could spend an endless amount of time telling you why you get more with M/I Homes how we make homes that are comfortable, stylish and built with superior quality, and why you should build with us, but we feel like our customers simply say it better! We’re so thrilled to have a long list of happy customers who are happy to share their stories while working with M/I Homes during the building process, and how much they love their homes once complete!

Today we hear from Beverly and John Hansberry- a happy couple of empty-nesters who are preparing to call our Woods at Indian Lake neighborhood home.

1.    What neighborhood are you building in?

Woods at Indian Lake in Lawrence Township

2.      When do you move in?

We are closing the week of March 25!

3.    What made you want to build with M/I Homes Indianapolis?

We built an M/I Home in 1992 and had a great experience then, which encouraged us to build with M/I again.

4.       How much research into builders did you do before you decided to go with M/I Homes?

When we built in 1992, our realtor recommended M/I Homes. We were aware of other builders, but after a little research, we felt none compared to the quality of M/I. This time around, after looking at existing homes, we decided to check into building once again. We would not have built with any other builder than M/I Homes.

5.       How did the M/I Homes team ease any nerves/worries you experienced during the building process?

Someone was always there for us. Any time we had questions, we felt comfortable enough to ask, knowing for certain we would get a quick and helpful response. Whether in sales, interior design, or construction, each person showed confidence and knowledge in their area of expertise. They also worked well as a team as we moved through the total building process.

6.       What do you think you will love most about your home?

We really love so many things about our home! The exterior is what caught our eye to begin with – it has a lovely little front porch that draws us into just spending time sitting! The interior is open and inviting as well. And the lot is beautiful with trees in the back that make us feel we are among nature, even with houses around us.

7.       Is there anything else you’d like to share?

Yes! There are a few key pieces of information that has made us especially happy with our decision to build with M/I!

·           M/I offers a variety of options and are open to adjustments to fit your needs and/or preferences
·           They have an energy certification that guarantees efficiency
·           Materials/options are high quality
·           M/I Homes will still address concerns or issues we have even weeks after the home has been completed

M/I Homes Sales Consultant Feature: Julie Dongoski

We have said it before and we’ll say it again- we couldn’t do what we do at M/I Homes Indianapolis without our fabulous team! This includes New Home Consultant Julie Dongoski. Many of our sales team members focus on just one community, but Julie has her hand selling in all of them! This really gives her a unique perspective and the opportunity to work with all kinds of M/I customers. Here’s more from Julie herself about her experience selling M/I Homes and her favorite parts of her job.

How long have you worked with M/I Homes Indianapolis?

I’ve been working for M/I Homes for about 3 1/2 years.

What’s your favorite part of your job?

I love when customers have just signed all of their paperwork to start the process to build a new home and then we go to their home site and I take a picture of them placing the sold sticker on the sign They are always so excited and I am, too!

What’s been your favorite memory working with an M/I Home client?

Actually, my very favorite memory is not about a client, but about myself. It started from a horrible memory. On November 8th, 2009, I had only been working for M/I Homes for just over three months when my husband Chris was playing with my children in a park near our back yard. He fell about 12′ from a tree. Our lives were changed instantly, as he crushed his spinal cord and was paralyzed from the waist down. My life was turned upside down. The first week or so is a blur. I was trying to keep everything “normal” for my then 6, 8 and 10 year old children. I was devastated about my husband and my new community at M/I was really busy at the time. Everyone at our office immediately rallied together bringing meals to our house, sending gift cards, cash and checks. Many of these donations came from Construction Supervisors and vendors I had never even met! Here’s something really amazing- not even a week after Chris’ accident, Joe Reedy, our Division Coordinator and Customer Care Manager, came to our home and told me that he and M/I Homes would do everything they could to help us make our home handicap accessible for Chris when he returned from in-patient therapy. My gosh! I hadn’t even thought of that. We have a two story home on a walk-out basement with stairs galore and my husband was going to be coming home in a wheelchair. Joe has worked for M/I Homes for many years and has a tremendous relationship with our vendors. With all of the time, labor and materials donated by our vendors and M/I Homes, we received a “home makeover”! We ended up purchasing an elevator with money our friends and family raised by holding a benefit for us. M/I and the vendors/sub-contractors built the elevator shaft off the back of our house and installed the elevator. M/I installed laminate flooring on the entire first floor and our master bedroom so Chris didn’t have to roll across carpet. They reconfigured our master bathroom, widened several doors, rebuilt our deck since it had two levels, poured a new smooth patio off our basement level, cleaned up our landscaping and had Moen donate several grab bars. It was amazing! Even our vendors and sub-contractors are part of our M/I Family!

In your opinion, what’s the best thing about M/I Homes?

The best thing about M/I Homes is that we are all truly a team with a common goal of treating our customers right, achieving excellent customer service ratings and building quality homes. I’ve never worked for a builder that had such a family environment. Usually there’s tension between construction and sales or production and marketing, but at M/I, we all work together as a team.

What feedback have you received from clients who have built with M/I?

Our customers love that they can customize their home to meet their individual needs. Many production builders will not allow changes at all. At M/I Homes, although our floor plans are well thought out, we are sensitive to the fact that personalization is important. Our customers also love having the 90 day post-closing inspection with our Customer Care Department. It shows we still care about our customers beyond the move-in day.

What are the best features of M/I Homes communities?

The streetscapes are so attractive in both the new and older M/I communities because our elevations are not only architecturally appealing, but unique for each elevation and every home. Because of this, the homes in our communities don’t end up looking all the same as you’ll sometimes see with other builders.

Happy with M/I Homes: Customer Story

At M/I Homes Indianapolis, our goal is to not only get families to build with us, but to ensure customers stay happy with our homes for years to come.

Sue and her husband moved into their first M/I Home in October of 2011. Coming up on their one year anniversary in their home, we wanted to check in and see how everything was going. Read what she had to say below:

M/I Homes Customer Story

What neighborhood/town do you live in?

We chose Marlin Meadows because we loved the location (near Wanamaker) as well as the charm of all the homes built there.

Is this your first M/I Home?

Yes

What made you want to build as opposed to buying an existing home?

We did look into buying an existing home, but all the homes we saw on the market didn’t meet all of our needs. All of them would have needed a lot of work.

How much shopping around between home builders did you do before deciding to go with M/I Homes?

I actually used to work for another home builder, so I was already aware of most builders out there. We researched most of the big names in the area before making a decision.

Why did you ultimately decide to build with M/I as opposed to other builders?

We really fell in love with the Marlin Meadows community. The look of M/I Homes is also very unique. They aren’t what I’d call “cookie cutter” homes that are just straight across on top with gable roofs; they have great curb appeal.

Are you pleased with your M/I Home?

 Yes, I love it!

When working with M/I Homes’ sales staff & team, how were you treated?

I was really impressed with the people at M/I. They truly want to help and make you happy! The communication among the company is very impressive. I know some home builders aren’t as great about customer services and tell you someone will get back to you about a service or issue, but don’t follow up. M/I Homes takes care of you and all your inquiries.

What is your favorite thing about your home?

I love the floor plan! There are little things that truly make it work such as the hall next to the entry has a wall to hide the opening of the bathroom. There’s also a wide entryway, a huge family room and my walk in closet is one of the largest I have seen.

Is your house somewhere where you envision yourself living for years to come? Why or why not?

Absolutely! We bought our M/I Home with the future in mind and looked specifically for a home that would fit our retirement needs.
