We have said it before and we’ll say it again- we couldn’t do what we do at M/I Homes Indianapolis without our fabulous team! This includes New Home Consultant Julie Dongoski. Many of our sales team members focus on just one community, but Julie has her hand selling in all of them! This really gives her a unique perspective and the opportunity to work with all kinds of M/I customers. Here’s more from Julie herself about her experience selling M/I Homes and her favorite parts of her job.
How long have you worked with M/I Homes Indianapolis?
I’ve been working for M/I Homes for about 3 1/2 years.
What’s your favorite part of your job?
I love when customers have just signed all of their paperwork to start the process to build a new home and then we go to their home site and I take a picture of them placing the sold sticker on the sign They are always so excited and I am, too!
What’s been your favorite memory working with an M/I Home client?
Actually, my very favorite memory is not about a client, but about myself. It started from a horrible memory. On November 8th, 2009, I had only been working for M/I Homes for just over three months when my husband Chris was playing with my children in a park near our back yard. He fell about 12′ from a tree. Our lives were changed instantly, as he crushed his spinal cord and was paralyzed from the waist down. My life was turned upside down. The first week or so is a blur. I was trying to keep everything “normal” for my then 6, 8 and 10 year old children. I was devastated about my husband and my new community at M/I was really busy at the time. Everyone at our office immediately rallied together bringing meals to our house, sending gift cards, cash and checks. Many of these donations came from Construction Supervisors and vendors I had never even met! Here’s something really amazing- not even a week after Chris’ accident, Joe Reedy, our Division Coordinator and Customer Care Manager, came to our home and told me that he and M/I Homes would do everything they could to help us make our home handicap accessible for Chris when he returned from in-patient therapy. My gosh! I hadn’t even thought of that. We have a two story home on a walk-out basement with stairs galore and my husband was going to be coming home in a wheelchair. Joe has worked for M/I Homes for many years and has a tremendous relationship with our vendors. With all of the time, labor and materials donated by our vendors and M/I Homes, we received a “home makeover”! We ended up purchasing an elevator with money our friends and family raised by holding a benefit for us. M/I and the vendors/sub-contractors built the elevator shaft off the back of our house and installed the elevator. M/I installed laminate flooring on the entire first floor and our master bedroom so Chris didn’t have to roll across carpet. They reconfigured our master bathroom, widened several doors, rebuilt our deck since it had two levels, poured a new smooth patio off our basement level, cleaned up our landscaping and had Moen donate several grab bars. It was amazing! Even our vendors and sub-contractors are part of our M/I Family!
In your opinion, what’s the best thing about M/I Homes?
The best thing about M/I Homes is that we are all truly a team with a common goal of treating our customers right, achieving excellent customer service ratings and building quality homes. I’ve never worked for a builder that had such a family environment. Usually there’s tension between construction and sales or production and marketing, but at M/I, we all work together as a team.
What feedback have you received from clients who have built with M/I?
Our customers love that they can customize their home to meet their individual needs. Many production builders will not allow changes at all. At M/I Homes, although our floor plans are well thought out, we are sensitive to the fact that personalization is important. Our customers also love having the 90 day post-closing inspection with our Customer Care Department. It shows we still care about our customers beyond the move-in day.
What are the best features of M/I Homes communities?
The streetscapes are so attractive in both the new and older M/I communities because our elevations are not only architecturally appealing, but unique for each elevation and every home. Because of this, the homes in our communities don’t end up looking all the same as you’ll sometimes see with other builders.
